Pingyao lacquerware national intangible cultural heritage

Lacquerwares are objects decoratively covered with lacquer. The varnished lacquerwares in Pingyao are made of natural lacquer and varnished using a special hand technique. After several steps of handicraft techniques, they are decorated with various colorful patterns and installed with ornaments. The surface of finished lacquerwares are smooth and lustrous. Having a history of over 1,000 years, the Pingyao lacquerware was listed as one of the national intangible cultural heritages of China in 2006.
