Study in Guangxi University

Located in Nanning, the picturesque capital of Guangxi, Guangxi University is the oldest and largest comprehensive university in Guangxi. It is the only national "211 Project" construction school in Guangxi. Universities in the central and western regions plan to build universities, world-class disciplines construction universities and "joint construction of colleges and universities in the central and Western regions" in order to enhance their comprehensive strength. 。 The school was founded in 1928 and became the national Guangxi University in 1939. It was merged with Nanning Normal University in 1950. In 1951, it was merged with the undergraduate Department of Xijiang University. In 1952, Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the name of Guangxi University. In the same year, the College of Agriculture of Guangxi University was established independently. In 1953, Guangxi University was suspended in the adjustment of colleges and departments in universities throughout the country. In 1958, Guangxi University was restored and rebuilt. In 1961, Guangxi Institute of Technology and Guangxi Institute of Science and Technology were merged into Guangxi University. In 1962, Guangxi Forestry College was incorporated into Guangxi Agricultural College. In 1970, Guangxi Labor University was incorporated into Guangxi Agricultural College. In 1992, Guangxi Agricultural College was renamed Guangxi Agricultural University. In 1997, Guangxi University merged with Guangxi Agricultural University to form a new Guangxi University.

Guangxi University is the pioneer of higher education in Guangxi. The first president of Guangxi University is a "generation master" known as "North Cai Nanma" in the educational circles. Dr. Ma Junwu, a famous educator, scientist and democratic revolutionist in China, is the first president of Guangxi University. During the period of National Guangxi University, Zhu Kezhen, Li Siguang, Chen Wangdao, Chen Yinke, Wang Li and a number of famous scholars had taught here, which was one of the comprehensive universities with great influence in China at that time. In 1953, when the faculties and departments of universities in China were adjusted, the faculties and students, disciplines, specialties, equipment and books of Guangxi University were adjusted to 19 universities in central and southern China, making great contributions and sacrifices to the development of higher education in New China. The merger of the two universities and the entry into the "211 Project" have made Guangxi University embark on a new journey to establish a high-level university. Especially since the eighteenth National Congress, the reform and development of schools have achieved a series of significant symbolic results: smoothly completing the plan of enhancing the comprehensive strength of universities in the central and Western regions, building and passing the national key laboratories, once again winning the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, four disciplines entering the top 1% of the ESI global disciplines, entering the national first-class disciplines construction universities, and selecting the national civilized units. The school covers an area of more than 216,000 mu, of which Fusui Agricultural Science Base (Agricultural and Forestry Animal Research Teaching and Experimental Base) covers an area of 16898.3 mu, with a total building area of more than 1.7 million square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 1.706 billion yuan. The total collection of Library entities is more than 3.86 million copies (pieces), 5.95 million copies of electronic books, 35,000 kinds of electronic journals and 182 Chinese and foreign language databases. There are a wide range of disciplines, covering 11 categories such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, industry, agriculture, medicine, management and art. The school also closely combines regional and local strategic needs, deepens the collaborative innovation of schools and cities, school halls, schools and enterprises, vigorously promotes the integration of science and education, and provides strong scientific and technological support for local economic and social development. The research team led by Professor Shen Peikang has taken the lead in building a pilot production line of 15 tons of graphene powder annually. Professor Yu Guo led the research team to conduct systematic and scientific investigations on coral reefs in the South China Sea islands including Huangyan Island since 2014, and obtained a large number of first-hand research samples, which are of great significance to the protection and development of the South China Sea and its coastal areas in China.
