Guangdong University of Foreign Languages and Trade is a key university with distinct internationalization characteristics in Guangdong Province. Historical evolution

Its predecessors are Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages and Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Trade. Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages was established in November 1964 and formally enrolled in July 1965. It is one of 36 universities directly under the former State Education Commission (now the Ministry of Education). Established in December 1980, Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Trade is a college directly under the former Ministry of Foreign Trade (now the Ministry of Commerce) and one of the founding units of the national discipline of international economy and trade. In May 1995, the Guangdong Provincial People's Government merged the two universities to form Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
