Guangdong Normal College of Technology is a provincial general higher education institution with the right to grant master's degree. It is an independent vocational and technical normal college in China. It is the first batch of Pilot Universities in Guangdong Province for the transformation of general undergraduate courses.

The college has a long history of development. Founded in 1957, formerly known as the Guangdong Institute for Nationalities, the first president was Comrade Luo Ming, a renowned revolutionary of the older generation. In 2002, it was renamed Guangdong Technical Normal College. In 2002 and 2005, the former Guangdong Machinery School, the former Guangdong Economic Management Cadre College and the Guangdong Finance and Trade Management Cadre College were merged successively. The College is located in Guangzhou, the first batch of famous historical and cultural cities in China, the birthplace of the Silk Road on the sea and the frontier of reform and opening up. It has four campuses, namely, the school-based headquarters, the western campus, the Northern Campus and the Baiyun campus.

The academy has a profound academic tradition and attaches great importance to teaching and learning. There are three major disciplines, namely engineering, humanities and management, and five key disciplines in Guangdong Province, namely, control science and engineering, vocational and technical education, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, ethnology and mechanical engineering. There are four authorized points for master's degree in education, control science and engineering, ethnology, journalism and communication, covering 22 secondary disciplines, Master of Education, Master of Engineering (Master of Electronic and Communication Engineering), Master of Accounting and other three authorized points for master's degree. The College is a postgraduate enrollment and training unit of "Vocational School Teachers on-the-job Master's Degree" and "Minority High-level Backbone Talents Program". It has 13 postgraduate joint training bases in Guangdong Province, such as "Guangdong Joint Postgraduate Training Demonstration Base". There are 20 secondary colleges with 16 916 full-time ordinary students. The college has 64 undergraduate majors. Among them, there are 28 specialties in science and engineering, 36 liberal arts and 30 teachers. There are 2 national and 8 provincial characteristic specialty construction sites, 1 national and 11 provincial comprehensive reform pilot projects, 1 national and 4 provincial excellent teacher training plan projects, 2 national and 30 provincial quality resource sharing courses, 1 national and 2 provincial quality video open courses, and 4 other provincial quality courses.

The College adheres to the principle of cultivating people with high academic level, great influence at home and abroad, dedicated and well-structured teaching staff. At present, there are 1401 faculty members, including 1027 full-time teachers, 147 full-time teachers, 147 full-time teachers and 352 sub-senior teachers. The proportion of full-time teachers is 48.6% and 303 full-time teachers have doctoral degrees, accounting for 29.5%. College adheres to the integration of industry and education, science and education, scientific research level and social service ability. The College has two Guangdong-level think tanks (Vocational Education Development Research Center and Ethnic Development Research Center), a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences (Ethnic Research Institute of Guangdong Normal University of Technology), two Guangzhou Key Laboratories (Digital Content Processing and New Safety Technologies, Industrial Robot Driving Technology and Components), and one Guangdong Science and Technology Department. International cooperation base, a public technology service platform for small and medium-sized enterprises of Guangdong Economic and Credit Commission, 13 engineering and technical research centers of Guangdong Province and more than 20 research platforms at provincial and departmental levels. In the past five years, teachers of the College have received 30 awards for scientific research achievements at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, including 2 at the national level. The College has two national and eight provincial specialty construction sites, 14 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, one national and 14 provincial college students'practical teaching base construction projects, nine provincial teaching teams, and one provincial university teachers' teaching development center, and a number of national and provincial key construction projects. "Guangdong Shunde Modern Vocational Education Research Institute" has been built with the people's government of Shunde District, and "Guangdong Skilled Talents Intellectual Property Training Base" has been built with the Intellectual Property Bureau of Guangdong Province, and "Yangjiang Local Legislative Research and Evaluation and Consulting Service Base" has been built with the People's Congress of Yangjiang City, together with Guangwu Automobile Trading Co., Ltd., Guangdong Radio and Television Station, Zhongxing Communications Co 157 school-enterprise cooperation training practice bases and a joint laboratory of engineering laboratories of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) have been established with Guangdong University of Technology. The College has a Guangdong Industrial Training Center with a total value of 211 million yuan in teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment. The library has a collection of about 2.261 million copies.

    The College highlights the characteristics of vocational education and serves Guangdong's economy and society. As the "Mother Machine of Vocational Education" of Guangdong Province and the "Key Town" of Vocational Education Research and Training of Vocational Teachers, the College is committed to training high-quality vocational education teachers and application-oriented senior specialized personnel, giving full play to the role of Mother Machine in training vocational teachers. It has been selected by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Provincial Department of Education as the "National Key Construction of Vocational Teachers Training Base" and "National Technology". Training Colleges for Talents in Shortage of Ability, Teachers Training Center of Vocational Education of the National People's Committee, Cooperative Innovation Development Center of Vocational and Technical Education of Guangdong Province, Practical Training Base of Highly Skilled Talents of Guangdong Province, Training Center of Principals of Secondary Vocational Schools of Guangdong Province, Research and Guidance Center of Moral Education of Secondary Vocational Schools of Guangdong Province, Teachers Teaching Development Center of Vocational Secondary Vocational School Teacher Development Center, etc. The College is the chairman of Guangdong Institute of Higher Vocational and Technical Education, Guangdong Vocational Teacher Training Alliance and Sino-German Joint Vocational Teacher Training Alliance.

Academic personnel training has achieved fruitful results. The College has always adhered to the position of talent training center and passed the undergraduate examination and evaluation in 2017. In January 2018, it signed a contract with the School Planning and Development Center of the Ministry of Education to become the first "Intelligent Learning Workshop Pilot University" in China. In the past five years, they have won four first-class awards and four second-class awards for teaching achievements of Guangdong higher education, and one second-class award for national teaching achievements has been awarded to school teachers. The College insists on collaborative education and supports students'innovative practice. Students have won many awards in the "Challenge Cup" series competitions, mathematical modeling competitions, electronic design competitions, Freescale Cup smart car competitions and other high-level disciplines competitions at home and abroad, with a total of 617 national awards and 1182 provincial awards. Graduates are widely welcomed by the society, and their employment rate has remained above 95% year after year. Although the name of the college is changed, it does not change its original intention, adhering to the school motto spirit of "good morality, erudite learning, realistic and innovative", adhering to the school orientation of "facing vocational education, serving vocational education, guiding vocational education and characteristic development", actively building an "overpass" between vocational education and general education, and striving to create a first-class, distinctive high-level technical normal university in China.
