Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology is located in Guilin City, a world-famous scenic city and a famous historical and cultural city in China. It is a University jointly built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and Guangxi, a University jointly built by the National Bureau of Defense Science and Technology Industry of China and Guangxi, a University selected by the National "Basic Capacity Building Project of Colleges and Universities in the Midwest" and a key construction university in Guangxi.

The school was founded in 1960, Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology was established in 1980 with the approval of the State Council, and was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology in 2006. The school has been subordinated to the Fourth Ministry of Machinery Industry, the Ministry of Electronic Industry, the Ministry of Mechanical and Electronic Industry, China Electronic Industry Corporation and the Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, the management system was transformed into a co-construction between the central and local governments, with local management as the main focus. In 1990, Comrade Jiang Zemin, then General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, visited the school and wrote an inscription for the school: "To train more qualified personnel for the development of electronic industry". In 2017, it was awarded the first "National Civilized Campus" title, and won this honor as the only university in Guangxi.

The school has Jinjiling Campus, Liuhe Road Campus, Huajiang Campus and Beihai Campus. They are located in Guilin National High-tech Development Zone, Guilin Yaoshan Scenic Area and Beihai Yinhai District, with a total area of 4153 mu. The building area of the school library is more than 45,000 square meters. The library has 1985,000 books in paper, 7,181,000 kinds of electronic books, 41 high-quality foreign literature academic databases, 49 Chinese databases and 34,172 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals (including electronic periodicals). It has advanced network information platform and intelligent campus platform.

There are 70 undergraduate majors in specialty schools, including one pilot specialty of national comprehensive reform, five national characteristic specialties, and two certified specialties of Engineering education. There are three national quality courses, one national bilingual teaching demonstration course and two national quality resource sharing courses. The school has obtained nine national planning textbooks for the 11th and 12th Five-Year Plan. The school has won four national awards for teaching achievements in higher education.

The school has four first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, one post-doctoral research mobile station, 17 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree, and seven categories authorized by master's professional degree, including 10 areas authorized by master's degree in engineering, and is a working University for postgraduate candidates.

There are more than 2900 teachers and staff in the Teachers'Team School. Among the teaching staff, there are 2 candidates for the "1000-person Program" of the Central Committee, 3 Specially-Appointed Professors for the "Yangtze River Scholars", 2 lecturers for the "Yangtze River Scholars", 7 recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 5 candidates for the National Million Talents Project, 1 outstanding professional and technical personnel, 2 excellent scientific and technological workers, 34 experts on special allowances of the State Council, and the "100-person Program" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Four candidates, three candidates from the Ministry of Education's "Supporting Plan for Excellent Talents in the New Century", eight from Guangxi's "Eight Gui Scholars", 11 from Guangxi's outstanding experts, five from Guangxi's specially appointed experts, and 10 from Guangxi's famous teaching teachers, etc. The Ministry of Education has one "National Year Teachers Team of Huangda University", three "Small Highlands of Talents" in Guangxi and five "Innovation Teams" in Guangxi Universities.

There are more than 40600 full-time students in the talent training school. The school is a demonstration school of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Education Training Program, the National Innovative Experiment Program for College Students, and the Ministry of Education's College English Teaching Reform. The school is a training unit for the children of the military frontier guards. Currently, there are 1 national talent training model innovation experimental area, 5 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national engineering practice teaching centers and 1 national university students off-campus practical education base; 2 National University Students "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team"; 1 professional studio support unit of the National Youth League New Media Operating Center; 1 University Students'network culture studio of the Ministry of Education One.

The school is the first national demonstration university to deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. It has the first batch of University Students'innovation and entrepreneurship practice base in China. The University Students' innovation practice base is named "National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Base" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the National Youth Federation. The school has been awarded as the "Advanced Unit in the Implementation of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program 2012-2014". Students in China's "Internet +" College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship competition, the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, the National College Students' mechanical innovation design competition, the National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in modeling and other competitions have won good results. They have won the "Internet +" university student innovation and entrepreneurship Golden Award, and the top award of the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest "SONY Cup". In 2017, the University ranked 34th in the evaluation result (undergraduate course) of the national university discipline competition.

The Science Research Institute undertakes major national science and technology projects, national key R&D projects, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, major scientific research instruments projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, surface projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and special entrusted projects of the National Social Science Foundation. In the past five years, 306 national scientific research projects have been added, nearly 2500 papers have been published in SCI and EI, and engineering has entered the first 1% of ESI in the world. He has published 139 academic works and won 88 awards for scientific research achievements at provincial and ministerial levels. The school has been engaged in national defense science research for a long time. It is a joint University established by the National Bureau of National Defense Science, Technology and Industry and the Guangxi Regional Government. It is one of the 30 colleges and universities directed by the Ministry of General Equipment's communication equipment pre-research project and one of the universities authorized by Beidou ICD. It undertook military research projects such as "973 Program" of the army, military models, advanced weaponry and equipment, and key technologies of national defense.

The school currently has one national and local joint Engineering Research Center for satellite navigation, positioning and location services, one national software and integrated circuit public service platform in Guangxi, one key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, nine key laboratories in Guangxi (including cultivation), one engineering laboratory in Guangxi, three collaborative innovation centers and cultivation bases in Guangxi in 2011, and seven engineering research centers in Guangxi. Information Science Experiment Center 1; Guangxi Humanities and Social Science Research Base 3, with a digital economy, industry and education integration innovation base. In 2014, the Science Park of Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology was approved as the National University Science and Technology Park, and the Universities Science and Technology Park was approved as the "National Public Creation Space".

The International Exchange School and the "along the way" countries, Asia, Europe, America, Oceania and Africa have established good cooperative relations with over 80 universities and academic institutions. Every year, the school selects excellent young teachers and students to visit or study in overseas universities, and recruits international students for a long time. The school is the acceptance and training unit of the Ministry of Education's "Chinese Government Scholarship", "Silk Road Scholarship", "Special Scholarship for Chinese and American Students" and "Scholarship for Overseas Students from ASEAN Countries of Guangxi Government". There are Sino-British and Sino-Ireland Sino-foreign cooperation and exchange projects.
