Hubei University is located in Wuhan, the central city of central China and the capital of Hubei Province. The school is a key Comprehensive University jointly built by the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education. It is also a national "basic capacity-building project for colleges and universities in the central and Western regions", a "first-class University-Building University in China" in Hubei Province and a "best civilized unit" in Hubei Province. I. Historical Evolution

In 1931, the predecessor of the school, Hubei Provincial College of Education, was born in Baoji'an, Wuchang. Since then, it has passed through the periods of National Hubei Normal College, Hubei Education College, Hubei Teachers'Further Education College, Hubei Normal College, Wuhan Normal College and Wuhan Normal College. In August 1984, the name was changed to Hubei University. In July 2013, the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education signed a document to jointly build Hubei University.

II. Conditions for running a school

There are three main campuses in Wuchang, Hankou and Yangluo, covering an area of more than 2100 mu. The total building area of the school is 710,000 square meters, the fixed assets are 1.376 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 424 million yuan. The total area of the library is 47.3 million square meters, with 2.415 million volumes of paper documents, 29.7758 million volumes of electronic books and 311 Chinese and foreign language databases.

3. Talent Training

At present, there are more than 18,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 6,000 doctoral and postgraduate students. There are three national-level production and education integration bases, two national bases for talent training and scientific research in basic disciplines, one national experimental teaching demonstration center, one national college students'cultural quality education base, two national college students' off-campus practical education bases, one national professional degree graduate joint training demonstration base, three provincial-level college students'practical training (demonstration) bases and 11 provincial-level College students' practical training (demonstration) bases. Provincial Graduate Student Workstation and Graduate Education Practice Base, 15 Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, and 1 Provincial College Students Innovation Activity Base. He has won five national teaching achievement awards and 87 provincial teaching achievement awards. Two national quality online open courses, two new research and practice projects of the Ministry of Education, 93 educational cooperation and collaborative education projects of educational departments, and one provincial humanities and Social Sciences top innovative talents pilot project were approved. There are 6 national characteristic specialty construction sites, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot project, 10 provincial brand specialties, 6 provincial comprehensive reform pilot projects, 11 provincial strategic emerging (pillar) industrial talent training projects, and 10 provincial "Jingchu Excellent Talents" collaborative education projects. There are two national teaching teams and two provincial teaching teams. There are 2 national quality courses, 1 national quality resource sharing course, 33 provincial quality courses, 4 provincial quality video open courses, 10 provincial quality resource sharing courses, 2 provincial quality online open courses, 42 online open courses on MOOC, school online, National Local University Excellent Course alliance and other public platforms. The school is a national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration university. It has been approved nearly 550 projects of national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training programs for college students.

Since the beginning of the new century, Hubei University has put forward the goal of building "first-class undergraduate education" earlier. It has launched nearly 20 experimental classes on the reform of various types of personnel training modes at all levels, including the national talent training base of liberal arts and basic sciences. It has taken the lead in implementing the "Chucai Plan" aiming at training top innovative talents and established the first general education college in Hubei University. In addition, we have actively organized and implemented the joint training of similar disciplines, the cultivation of literary, historical and philosophical knowledge, and the reform of personnel training mode according to the training of first-level disciplines and major categories. In 2004, the school was awarded "Excellent" in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education, and passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education smoothly in 2017.

Especially in recent years, through vigorously implementing a series of measures, such as "first-class undergraduate education project", "quality improvement plan for graduate education", "top-notch innovative talents training plan", and "ten-year talent cultivation plan" which is well-rounded and well-rounded, the school has continuously improved the quality of talent cultivation and ensured that the one-time employment rate of graduates has always been maintained at more than 90%. In 2016, it was successfully approved as a national model university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform.

Campus cultural activities are rich and colorful. Students have won first prizes in many major competitions, such as the National Challenge Cup extracurricular academic and technological works competition, the Mathematical Modeling Competition, the Electronic Design Competition and the College English Competition. Since its establishment in 2003, the school's five-player football team has won 15 national championships and five times represented China in the World University Five-player Football Championship, and won the 7th best result in the history of the project. Since its establishment in 2006, the School Dragon and Lion Troupe has won two World Championships in the North Lion Event of the Fifth World Dragon and Lion Championship.

IV. Discipline and Major

Disciplines cover 12 disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, industry, agriculture, medicine, management and art. Among them, materials science and chemistry are among the top 1% of ESI international disciplines, materials science is among the best disciplines in the US News world, materials science and engineering, nanoscience and technology are among the world's first-class disciplines in ARWU (soft science), ranking among the world's high-level disciplines. Material Science and Chemistry, Chinese Language, Literature, Philosophy, Culture and Biology were selected as the first-class disciplines in Hubei Province. In the fourth round of national discipline level assessment, 15 disciplines rank first in Universities Affiliated to Hubei Province, and 8 disciplines rank third in Universities Affiliated to Hubei Province. There are 18 disciplined colleges and 80 undergraduate majors. There are 9 doctoral degree First-Level Discipline authorization points, 6 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 27 master's degree First-Level Discipline authorization points and 16 master's professional degree authorization categories. There are 16 key first-level disciplines in Hubei Province during the 12th Five-Year Plan, 2 dominant characteristic disciplines in Hubei Province during the 13th Five-Year Plan, and 39 post-setting disciplines under the Chutian Scholars'Plan.

5. Teachers

There are 1 417 full-time teachers in the school, including 893 full-time and associate professors, 155 doctoral tutors and 735 master tutors. The school has two double-hired academicians, two "Yangtze River Scholars Award Scheme", "Thousand-Person Plan", "Ten Thousand-Person Plan", "Ten Thousand-Person Plan", "Ten Thousand-Person Plan", "Two National Outstanding Youth", "Ten Million Talents Project", "Ten Million Talents Project", "National Model Teachers", "New Century Outstanding Talents Support Plan" of the Ministry of Education"and"Hundred-Person Plan"of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. VI. Scientific Research and Services

Since 2012, the total annual scientific research funding of the school has exceeded 100 million yuan for five consecutive years. There are now one State Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering, one National Joint Engineering Research Center of High-throughput Drug Screening Technology, one National Innovative Talents Training Demonstration Base, two Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education, six Key Laboratories of Hubei Province, two Engineering Laboratories, seven Engineering Research Centers, and 12 Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences at the provincial level. It is the leading unit of the collaborative innovation center of the "2011 Plan" of Hubei Province and the participating unit of the national and provincial collaborative innovation centers. The school took the lead in setting up a number of scientific research institutes, such as Tianshu New Energy Materials Industrial Research and Design Institute, Hubei University-Guizhou Local Tax Electronic Taxation Research Center, Hubei Fine Phosphorus Chemical Technology Research Institute, Hubei Regional Development Research Institute and Hubei County Governance Research Institute, to integrate the humanities disciplines in the University and set up a higher Humanities Research institute.

The school has formed obvious advantages and characteristics in the fields of Marxist theory, special history, philosophy and culture, literature and language, theoretical economics, new materials, biotechnology, basic mathematics, ecological environment, chemical industry, information and electronics, teacher education and so on. It has won one prize of the National Science Congress and three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress. More than 30 R&D centers of schools and enterprises have been built, and strategic cooperation agreements have been signed with provincial cities (states). Has the first-class qualification of tourism planning and land planning, and presides over the completion of more than 40% of the province's tourism planning. Actively participated in the construction of "think tanks". Relevant experts and scholars provided a large number of high-level ideological and theoretical achievements and decision-making consulting programs for Party and government organs and social organizations at all levels. Hubei County Governance Research Institute was selected as the Hubei Reform Think Tank and Hubei Cultural Construction Research Institute as the ten new think tanks that the Hubei Provincial Committee decided to focus on. In recent years, the school has been awarded "Advanced Unit of Serving the Economic and Social Development of Hubei Province" for many times, and has entered the top ten of "Service the Economic and Social Development of Colleges and Universities in Hubei".

VII. International Exchanges

The school has established academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation with nearly 150 universities and research institutes in 39 countries and regions, and has established Confucius institutes with Memphis University of America, Brazil, UNESP, Sao Tome and Principe University, and established a Confucius classroom with Poland ya jalong school. Among them, the Confucius Institute of the University of Memphis in the United States and the Confucius Institute of Sao Paulo State University in Brazil have won the title of "Global Advanced Confucius Institute" for many times. Since the 1960s, the school has enrolled international students. It has the qualifications of enrolling diploma students in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. "Brazilian Research Center of Hubei University" and "Latin American Research Center of Hubei University" were both registered by the National and Regional Research Center of the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Ministry of Education's Pre-trip Training and Research Center for Overseas Studies, and the Hubei Provincial Education Department approved the acceptance of the Hubei Provincial Self-funded Service Center for Overseas Studies. The service system of foreign affairs work and overseas study management has been constantly improved.

IX. Development Goals

At the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan, it will strive to achieve the goal of entering the top 100 universities in the whole country with several core indicators, and striding towards the top 100 universities in the country with comprehensive strength and level of running schools. On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, it will strive to build a high-level comprehensive university with high international influence and important domestic contributions.
