Harbin Medical University is composed of Harbin Medical Specialized School founded by Dr. Wu Liande, the pioneer of Chinese medicine, in 1926, and the first and second branches of Xingshan Chinese Medical University. After 92 years of development and construction, the school inherits Dr. Wu Liande's spirit of "sincere patriotism, self-improvement and entrepreneurship", carries forward the glorious tradition of "political firmness, excellent technology" of the Chinese Red Army Health School for Workers and Peasants, and adhering to the school motto of "wooden straightforward, knowledgeable and carrying medical knowledge". Its comprehensive strength is constantly strengthened, and it has a considerable scale of development and distinct school-running characteristics. The school is a joint university built by ministries and provinces, a high-level university in Heilongjiang Province and a university built by advantageous disciplines, a leading Chinese unit in the alliance of Chinese and Russian medical universities, a national base for basic scientific research and teaching personnel training, and the first batch of seven-year higher medical education institutions run by the Ministry of Education.

The school has 18 secondary departments and 9 public institutions. There are 16 926 faculty members. There are 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 Nightingale Award winner, 3 members of the Discipline Review Group of the State Council, 13 members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 3 members of the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education of Medical Professional Degrees, 3 national famous teaching teachers, 1 winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 1 winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund and 1 winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. There are 2 people in the People's Plan, 5 people in the Ten Thousand People's Plan and 8 scholars in the Yangtze River, who enjoy 93 special allowances from the State Council.

The school has 9 authorization points for first-level disciplines and 63 authorization points for second-level disciplines; 11 authorization points for first-level disciplines and 66 authorization points for second-level disciplines for master's degrees; and 5 mobile stations for post-doctoral research. There are 18 undergraduate majors in the school-based department. There are 12036 undergraduates, 5963 postgraduates and 540 overseas students in general education.

The school has 2 national key disciplines, 1 National Key Cultivation disciplines, 33 national key clinical specialty construction projects, 21 provincial key disciplines (groups), and 31 provincial leading talent echelons. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, one discipline entered category A (A-), eight disciplines into category B (2 B+, 3 B, 3 B-). There are 2 international cooperation joint laboratories, 1 provincial and ministerial training base for national key laboratories, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 2 key laboratories of the Health and Health Commission, 13 provincial key laboratories and 11 key laboratories of provincial universities. Two academician workstations have been built with local governments and enterprises. A Cooperative Center for transformation research of northern medicine has been established.

The school has four national experimental teaching demonstration centers and one national virtual simulation experimental teaching center. Editor-in-chief of 43 textbooks for the 12th Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Education and the Health and Health Commission. The Ministry of Education has approved three pilot projects for the reform of the Education and Training Plan for Excellent Doctors. It has won 4 national open video courses, 12 national resource sharing courses and 1 national excellent online open course. A total of 16 national teaching achievement awards and 139 provincial teaching achievement awards were awarded. Since the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, 553 educational research projects have been established and 757 educational and teaching papers have been published, including 4 in SCI.

Since the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the school has obtained 7377 scientific research projects, presided over one national key basic research development plan ("973" plan), one national high-tech development plan ("863" plan), two national key R&D projects and 1068 National Natural Science Fund projects. Among the 770 awards, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award of Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Science Research), and the first prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award were awarded. It has won one innovation research group project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and two scientific and technological innovation teams of the Ministry of Education. He published 18264 scientific research papers, of which 6400 were included in SCI. Write and publish 523 books. It has 434 valid patents, 182 invention patents and 10 software and copyright.
