Study in Hebei Normal University
Hebei Normal University is a provincial key university jointly built by the People's Government of Hebei Province and the Ministry of Education. Hebei Province is a "double-first-class" university. The school originated from Shuntianfu School in Beijing in 1902 and Beiyang Women's Normal School in Tianjin in 1906. It has 116 years'development history and glorious school-running tradition. In June 1996, the former Hebei Normal University and Hebei Normal College merged with Hebei Institute of Education founded in 1952 and Hebei Vocational and Technical Normal College founded in 1984 to form a new Hebei Normal University. Among the alumni are Deng Yingchao, Liu Qingyang, Guo Longzhen, Yang Xiufeng, Kang Shien, Rong Gaotang, etc., the famous scholars Liang Shuming, Zhang Shenfu, Tang Yongtong, the academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences Yan Luguang, Hao Berlin, Li Shushen, He Hong, and a group of elites of sports circles such as Xu Shaofa and Cai Zhenhua. Since the founding of New China, the school has trained more than 260,000 professionals for the country.
The school moved into the new campus as a whole in 2011. The new campus covers an area of 1829 mu, has 3.03 million books and 67 Chinese and foreign language databases. The school currently has 2634 on-the-job staff, including 1578 full-time teachers. Among the on-the-job faculty, there are 430 persons in the regular and higher vocational colleges, 931 persons in the Deputy higher vocational colleges, 1 person in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 203 persons in all kinds of outstanding experts at or above the provincial level, 124 tutors in doctoral postgraduates and 768 tutors in master's postgraduates. There are 23101 undergraduate students, 4638 graduate students and 8418 adult education students.
The school now has 21 professional colleges and 1 independent college (Huihua College). There are 11 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree and 1 doctoral professional degree; 29 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree and 14 master's professional degree; 95 undergraduate disciplines. Discipline majors cover philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, science, engineering, management, art and other disciplines. At present, there are 1 national key disciplines, 9 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 7 "double-first-class" construction disciplines in Hebei Province, 1 national key disciplines cultivation project in provincial universities, 4 strong characteristic disciplines in provincial universities, 14 key disciplines in provincial universities, including 1 Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 key research base of Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and 8 provincial key laboratories. Chemistry, botany and zoology are among the top 1% in the ESI world. Schools continue to deepen the reform of education and teaching, and the quality of teaching continues to improve. Now it has one national talent training model innovation experimental area, one national teaching team, six national specialty construction sites, four national specialty comprehensive reform pilot projects, 108 National Undergraduate Innovation and entrepreneurship training projects, six national quality resource sharing courses, one national quality video open course, and four national experimental teaching demonstration centers. One famous teacher in teaching, one famous teacher in National "Ten Thousand People Plan", three winners of Huo Yingdong Young Teacher Award, and one top-notch young teacher in National "Ten Thousand People Plan". There are seven innovative highlands of undergraduate education in Hebei Province, six teaching teams at the provincial level, eight specialties with provincial brand characteristics, five pilot projects of comprehensive reform of Provincial specialties, 54 provincial top-quality courses and provincial experiments. There are 5 teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers and 13 provincial famous teachers. In recent years, the school has won four national teaching achievement awards (1 first prize and 3 second prize).
Focusing on the credit system, on-the-job teaching practice, and large-scale enrollment and training, three basic reforms of undergraduate teaching have been promoted: the reform of credit system has been constantly improved to meet the needs of students'self-design and self-development. A complete teacher education system, which combines basic education, vocational education and higher education, is constructed. In June 2013, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council visited the school and gave a high appraisal of the practice of training students at the grass-roots level and the life choices of students willing to go to the grass-roots level for employment. We have implemented a wide range of enrollment and training reforms and strengthened general education. Actively develop non-normal specialty, initially form four training modes, and construct a new pattern of talent training for normal specialty and non-normal specialty. The quality of postgraduate training is constantly improving. In 2015, the school was named "Top 50 Universities with Typical Employment Experience for Graduates in China"; in 2016, it was recognized as "the first batch of national demonstration universities to deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education reform"; and in 2017, it was selected as the implementation institution of the Ministry of Education's "Training Plan for Excellent Middle School Teachers" reform project.
New progress has been made in scientific research. It has undertaken a number of scientific research projects with great influence, such as the national "973" and "863" plans, the international cooperation projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, the major bidding projects of the National Social Science Foundation, the major commissioned projects of Marxist theoretical research and construction projects, and the main projects of the National History Compilation Project of Qing Dynasty. Academician Sun Daye's research group won the second prize of National Natural Science, filling the gap in Hebei Province; doctoral thesis directed by Professor Jiang Chunlan entered the ranks of "100 excellent articles in the whole country". The research achievements of Humanities and social sciences were awarded the Excellent Achievement Award of Scientific Research in Higher Institutions by the Ministry of Education, the National Dictionary Award and the Lu Xun Literature Award. He has published many high-level academic papers in authoritative academic journals at home and abroad, such as Sciences, Nature and Chinese Social Sciences.
Give full play to the advantages of disciplines and promote collaborative innovation. Three collaborative innovation centers in Hebei Province have been established, namely "Cell Signal and Environmental Adaptation", "Digital Education", "Yanzhao Academic Research Center", "Great Wall Cultural Safety Research Center" has been selected as the first batch of new think tanks in Hebei Province, and the Hebei Mathematics Research Center, Mobile Internet of Things Research Institute, Nihewan Archaeological Research Institute, Jifu Research Center and County History and Culture Research Center have been established. Innovative platforms such as the Public Policy Evaluation Center, AR Key Laboratory, Yan Liang Xuezhi Center, the Center for the Inheritance and Development of Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture, and the Center for Eco-environmental Research have significantly enhanced their ability to serve economic construction and social development.
The school extensively carries out international cooperation and exchanges. Formal cooperative relations have been established with 85 universities and educational institutions in 23 countries. More than 200 foreign universities have exchanged views on cooperation in running schools, teacher exchanges, student exchanges, online courses, scientific research cooperation and international intellectual attraction, and the level of internationalization of running schools has been gradually improved. The school is the recipient unit of "Chinese Government Scholarship" and "Confucius Institute Scholarship" for foreign students. Every year, there are more than 600 international students with long-term and short-term self-funded language and academic degrees from Russia, the United States, Italy, Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan and other countries. Three Confucius Institutes and one Confucius Classroom have been built, a Portuguese-Chinese bilingual high school has been co-constructed, and volunteers of Chinese teachers have been selected from 25 countries to actively participate in the international promotion of Chinese. Peru Research Center, Indonesia Research Center and China-Russia Far East Research Center have been set up to focus on building regional research platforms.
Party committees in schools adhere to the idea of "focusing on the central work, focusing on the party building and promoting the central work", and constantly strengthen the party building and ideological and political work in the spirit of reform and innovation, which provides a strong political, ideological and organizational guarantee for the development of schools. The school has been awarded the titles of "Red Flag Unit for Party Building at the Grass-roots Level", "Advanced Grass-roots Party Organization" and "Civilized Unit" by the provincial Party Committee and the provincial government. In 2017, it was awarded the title of the first National Civilized Campus by the Central Civilization Commission.
