As a competitive university with relatively larger scale in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province, Mudanjiang Normal University extends priorities in teacher education research, elementary education, continuing education and training. With a history dating back to 1958, our university was one of the first authorized by the State Council to issue bachelor’s degrees. Now it offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses with a student enrollment of more than 16,300 on the levels of graduates and full-time undergraduates.

    In the last two decades, the University has grown rapidly into a quality university that has been approved as “Excellent” in 2009 at the National Education Ministry Undergraduate Teaching Level Assessment standards. With an area of 831,200 square meters, and the building area of nearly 421,000 square meters, MNU has 17 schools distributed in 10 disciplines among which there are 56 undergraduate programs, 8 class-A master’s degree conferment programs, 29 class-B master’s degree conferment programs, and 3 professional master degree programs. The library provides collections of more than 2,200,000 books (including 515 thousand electronic books) and more than 3,000 Chinese and foreign journals for study and research.

    We have a faculty of 1238, including 771 full-time teachers, of which there are 401 professors and associate professors, 2 experts enjoying the special bonus from the State Council and provincial government, 11 entitled prominent teachers at the national or the provincial levels. At MNU, we are guided by the values of “Morality, Studiousness, Accumulation, Emergence”. Our focus on teaching and research is inspired by the ideals of “Teacher Education Programs Predominant, Non-teacher Education Programs Excellent” in developing citizens for the benefits of the socialist country.

    MNU has been recognized with a place in the international student education with the honors of “The Standard and Model School of National Language and Writing”, “The Testing Center of HSK”, “The Chinese Government Scholarship University for International Students”. With globalization in sight, MNU has made great effort to open the university to the international higher education. The university has established cooperative relations with more than 75 universities from Russia, South Korea, Japan, Australia, the United States, Britain and other countries, every year hundreds of students coming to MNU learning Mandarin at the campus.

    With the “Normal University with Distinctive Features” as the developing goal, the university is now trying to promote “quality higher, faculty stronger, and features more distinctive”.
