Shihezi University is a national "211 Project" key construction university, a national western key construction university and a provincial-ministerial co-construction university. The predecessor of the school was born in September 1949 during the march of the People's Liberation Army of China to liberate Xinjiang. In April 1996, it was formed by the combination of Shihezi Agricultural College, Shihezi Medical College, Corps Normal College and Corps Economic College under the Ministry of Agriculture.
