Shanxi University is located in Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province, which has a history of more than 2500 years. Its predecessor is Shanxi University Hall founded in 1902. Its long-standing cultural context can be traced back to Sanli College in Ming Dynasty, Jinyang College and Lingde College in Qing Dynasty. The early Shanxi University Hall, which combines Chinese and Western education, lays equal stress on literature and science, has a broad idea of running a school and advanced educational concept. It is one of the important birthplaces of modern higher education in China, and it is also an important cultural, scientific and educational center in the Three Jin Dynasty for one hundred years. After 116 years of schooling, Shanxi University has always been rooted in the fertile soil of Chinese civilization. With the responsibility of "Professor profound academics, cultivate great scholarship, meet the needs of the country", it upholds the glorious tradition of "Chinese and Western communication, seeking truth and goodness, advocating the fine school spirit of"diligence, rigour, faithfulness and innovation", and cultivates more than 300,000 excellent talents. It has made important contributions to the development of higher education in China.

Hundreds of years of cultivation of talent, flourishing continued Huazhang. In recent years, carrying the mission of rejuvenating the country by science and education and strengthening the country by talents, Shanxi University has achieved leapfrog development and has become a high-level comprehensive university with equal emphasis on arts and technology. In 1998, it became the key construction University of Shanxi Province. In 2005, it became a co-construction University between Shanxi Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education. In 2012, it became one of the 14 universities selected as "the project of enhancing the comprehensive strength of the central and Western universities" in China, and stepped onto the new platform of building "distinctive and high-level" universities in the country. In 2014, Taiyuan Electric Power College, with a 60-year history, was merged into Shanxi University, and its discipline structure was further improved. In 2016, it became the key construction University of "one province, one school" in the central and western part of the country. In 2017, Shanxi Province issued opinions to support Shanxi University to implement the "1331 Project" in depth and take the lead in achieving "double first-class" development. In 2018, on the basis of the co-construction of provinces and ministries and the construction of "one province and one school", I revised it to become a co-construction University between the Ministry of Education and the Shanxi provincial government.

There are all kinds of disciplines and strong scientific research strength. The school has a number of important disciplines platforms represented by national key disciplines, national key laboratories, key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, key research bases of Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, and national local joint laboratories. There are 93 undergraduate majors in 12 university disciplines, including literature, history, philosophy, science, industry, agriculture, economics, management, law, teaching, art, medicine, and 10 undergraduate double degree enrollment majors. There are 17 authorization points for first-level disciplines of doctoral degree and 3 authorization points for second-level disciplines; 37 authorization points for first-level disciplines of master's degree and 9 authorization points for second-level disciplines of master's degree; 18 types of master's professional degrees; 2 interdisciplinary and 2 master's degree points independently; and 4 out-of-catalogue second-level disciplines and 4 master's points respectively. Chemistry and engineering are among the top 1% of ESI in the world. In recent years, the number of national "973" projects, key R&D projects and projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation and Social Science Foundation has increased steadily. The school has won 16 national scientific research awards, including the Second Prize of National Natural Science, the Second Prize of Technological Invention, the Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress, and the First Prize of Excellent Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences Research in Universities of the Ministry of Education.

Famous teachers and celebrities gather together, and the teaching results are remarkable. At present, there are 2095 full-time teachers and 999 senior titles teachers. Among them are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, international outstanding professional and technical personnel, specially appointed professors and lecturers of scholars from the Yangtze River, 1000 high-level talents planned for overseas introduction, high-level leaders planned for 10,000 people, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, national model teachers and experts enjoying special government allowances. It has one innovation research group of the National Natural Science Foundation, three national teaching teams and two innovation teams of the Ministry of Education. Five courses were selected as national top-quality courses, three courses were selected as national top-quality video open courses, and one course was selected as national top-quality resource sharing courses. Nine textbooks have become national planning textbooks. A total of 10 people have won the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award or Nomination Award.

Practical activities are abundant and educational achievements are remarkable. The school currently has 30181 full-time students, including 24088 undergraduates and 5867 postgraduates. Opening the "pilot class for the beginners", introducing the concept of research-based teaching, and strengthening the practical teaching links have significantly improved students'academic literacy and innovative ability. The one-time employment rate of students has always been above 85%. In recent years, our students have won more than 40 first-class prizes and 40 first-class prizes in the National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students, the "Challenge Cup" Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Competition, Electronic Design Competition, Advertising Art Competition and English Competition, and more than 10 gold, silver and bronze medals in the Olympic Games, Asian Games and National Games.

International exchanges are extensive and channels for studying abroad are smooth. The school has continuously expanded its foreign exchanges, established cooperative relations with more than 60 universities and research institutes in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Britain, France, Germany and Canada, and established Confucius College in cooperation with Charlotte University of North Carolina in the United States. At present, it has three campuses, namely, Doucheng Campus, Dadongguan Campus and Dongshan Campus (under construction), covering a total area of 2985 Mu and a construction area of 1.1 million square meters. School shaded roads, flowers and plants enclosure, everywhere emits a suitable learning and livable humanistic atmosphere, was named by the provincial government as "gardening unit" and "green school". The library has more than 3.6 million volumes of literature and 340,000 volumes of electronic books. The new Dongshan Campus under construction will provide a broad space for the development of talent training and scientific research and innovation.
