The predecessor of Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1952 in Xi'an, which was upgraded to Shaanxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1959 and moved to Xianyang, the ancient capital in 1961. Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the only ordinary university in Shaanxi Province to train senior talents of traditional Chinese medicine. It is one of the eight key universities of traditional Chinese medicine established in 1978 in document No. 56 of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It recruited and trained postgraduates in 1978. In 1981, it became the first batch of postgraduate conferring units in China.
