Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1958, formerly known as Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1992, the Ministry of Education (formerly the State Education Commission) authorized the addition of the brand of International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was renamed Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2006. In 2017, the school was included in the list of national "double-first-class" construction universities, and the discipline of traditional Chinese medicine was selected as the national "double-first-class" construction discipline. In 2018, the school will become a University jointly built by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Tianjin Municipal Government. It will soon become a University jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Tianjin Municipal Government. The school is the chairman of the Teaching Steering Committee of Chinese medicine specialty and medical humanities quality of the Ministry of Education, and the chairman of the Education Steering Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Associations. There are 16 colleges, 1 department, 1 Research institute, 3 directly affiliated hospitals, 4 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 119 teaching and practice bases, and 24 enrollment majors. Among them, the Chinese materia medica major has passed the professional certification of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Chinese materia medica major of the Ministry of Education. At present, there are 13409 full-time students, including 9339 undergraduates. In 2018, the school has been officially relocated to a new school site near Tuanbo Lake, Jinghai District, Tianjin. The campus area is 2174 Mu and the building area is 483,000 square meters.

The school has three construction points of characteristic specialties in national universities, one pilot project of comprehensive reform of national specialties, three pilot universities and pilot projects of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Doctors (TCM) Education Training Plan reform, one national teaching team, two national innovative experimental zones of talent training mode, two national experimental teaching demonstration centers and two national virtual simulation experimental teaching. One center, six national excellent resource sharing courses, one national bilingual teaching demonstration course and one off-campus practical education base for college students. He has won five national awards for teaching achievements, one of which is the first prize.

The school has six disciplines, pharmacology and toxicology into the first 1% of ESI, three post-doctoral research mobile stations, three doctoral degree authorization points, 21 doctoral degree authorization points, one doctoral degree authorization point and six master degree authorization points. There are 2 national key disciplines in internal medicine of TCM and acupuncture and massage, 23 national key disciplines in TCM administration, 9 key disciplines in Tianjin during the 13th Five-Year Plan, 2 first-class disciplines in Tianjin and 3 dominant characteristic disciplines groups.

The scientific research strength of the school has been improved year by year. In the past five years, the research funds have totaled 360 million yuan, and a number of symbolic achievements have been obtained. The first prize of national scientific and technological progress in 2014 was awarded to the "Creation and Industrialization of the Core Technology System for the Secondary Development of Chinese Patent Medicine".

The school has a complete and systematic scientific research platform. The existing state-level international joint research center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Sino-Italian Joint Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the National Innovative Talents Training Demonstration Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Modern Chinese Medicine, the Key Laboratory of Formula Science of the Ministry of Education, and the Modern Chinese Medicine Discovery and Pharmaceutical Technology Project of the Ministry of Education have been established. There are 32 teaching and research platforms such as research centers. It took the lead in building a modern synergistic innovation center of traditional Chinese medicine and formed a talent gathering plateau, which played an important role in regional economic and social development and industry scientific and technological progress.

Adhering to the concept of "strengthening schools with talents and promoting schools with quality", and insisting that teachers are the source and basis of teaching quality, the school has formed a team of talented teachers with academician-Jieqing-Changjiang scholar as the peak and innovation team of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science and Technology as the plateau. There are 3 572 staff and 997 staff with senior professional titles in our school (including the First and Second Affiliated Colleges). At present, there are three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (one of whom is a part-time employee), two masters of Chinese medicine, three famous Chinese doctors, three leaders of the National "Ten Thousands of People Program", one special professor of the Yangtze River Scholars Award Scheme, one winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, one winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, three national candidates for one million talented people project, and three excellent nationwide candidates. There are three outstanding teachers, one national model teacher and seven young and middle-aged experts who have made outstanding contributions by the Ministry of Health. Nine candidates were selected for Tianjin's "Thousand-Person Plan", three top young talents in Tianjin, nine titled experts in Tianjin, two experts in Tugong, 15 candidates for the first level of Tianjin's "131 Innovative Talent Training Project", 10 specially appointed professors in Tianjin, 2 teaching teachers in Chinese medicine colleges and universities nationwide, 11 teaching teachers in Tianjin, and 6 outstanding young scientific and technological talents in Tianjin. One recipient of the Outstanding Youth Science Foundation in Tianjin and one scholar in Tianjin. There are three innovation teams in the "Yangtze River Scholar Award Plan" of the Ministry of Education, one innovation talent training demonstration base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, two innovation teams in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology's innovation talent promotion plan, one high-level innovation and entrepreneurship team of the Tianjin Special Support Plan for Talent Development, one innovation team in key areas of category A of the Tianjin Innovation Talent Promotion Plan, and two "131" innovation teams in Tianjin.

On the one hand, the school attracts international students to study Chinese medicine. At present, it has trained 1 799 academic and 12 529 non-academic students. On the other hand, it promotes exchanges and cooperation with overseas educational institutions. The school jointly organizes clinical pharmacy with Nottingham University, Japan Chiba University, Osaka University, Korea Korea Korean Medical University and North Alaba University. Bama University and other universities have launched exchange student programs, which have broadened the international horizons of our students.
