Tianjin University of Finance and Economics is one of the earliest financial and Economic Universities in China. It is a multi-disciplinary university with economics and management as the main subjects, and has the cross-penetration and coordinated development of law, literature, science, engineering, education, art and other disciplines.

Founded in 1958, the school is based on Nankai University's economics and management specialty, and is composed of a group of renowned experts and scholars in the fields of economics and management from universities in North and Northeast China. Formerly known as Hebei Institute of Finance and Economics, on October 1, 1969, it was assigned to the leadership of Tianjin and renamed Tianjin Institute of Finance and Economics. On May 17, 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. After 60 years of construction and development, generations after generations of hard work, great changes have taken place in the school's outlook, and it has become an important base for Tianjin Municipal Key University and North China to train senior economic and management personnel.

The school is situated on the beautiful coast of the Bohai Sea. The campus is covered with green trees and lakes. The architectural landscape, humanistic landscape and natural landscape are harmonious and elegant. The school is located at No. 25 Pearl River Road, Hexi District, Tianjin, and has a Ma Chang Road Campus. The school covers an area of nearly 1400 mu, with a total construction area of about 540,000 square meters, including the digital Yifu Library with more than 1.5 million books, 180,000 square meters of teaching buildings and 160,000 square meters of University Students'apartments.

The school has three doctoral degree authorization points in applied economics, business administration, management science and engineering, and nine post-doctoral research mobile stations in applied economics, business administration, management science and engineering, theoretical economics, public management, computer science and technology, foreign language and literature, law and Marxist theory. As well as the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accounting (MPAcc), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Law (JM) and other 13 professional master's degree authorization points. There are 49 undergraduate majors.

The school has a high-level teaching staff. There are 742 full-time teachers. The number of professors and associate professors accounts for 44% of the total number of teachers. It has members of the discipline evaluation team of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, the discipline evaluation panel of the National Natural Science Foundation Committee, the discipline evaluation panel of the National Social Science Foundation, members of the Economic Discipline Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, specially appointed professors of the "Yangtze River Scholar Award Plan" of the Ministry of Education, specialists in special allowances of the Government of the State Council, and national famous teachers of teaching. More than 200 experts and scholars from home and abroad were employed as guests, part-time professors and doctoral tutors. Dr. Mundell, a famous professor of economics at Columbia University, the father of the euro, the founder of contemporary financial development theory, Dr. McKinnon, a professor at Stanford University, and other internationally renowned economic experts have come to our university as guest professors to lecture.

The school has a strong scientific research team, especially in Applied Economics and business management disciplines. Many research results are at the forefront of the discipline. Some experts and professors enjoy a high reputation and academic influence in the field of this discipline in China.

There are more than 15,000 students in the school, including 12,000 undergraduates and nearly 3,000 postgraduates. Schools set the goal of cultivating talents with the potential of sustainable development in line with the requirements of the times. They closely combine the broad-caliber and solid foundation with the goal of educating people. They pay attention to the cultivation of students and focus on improving their learning, practical and innovative abilities. Quality education achieves fruitful results. A number of outstanding students have been collectively recognized at the national and municipal levels, and have been awarded the title of "Advanced Unit of Social Practice for National College Students" for 16 consecutive years. Students have won the first prize in the National College English Competition, the National Mathematical Modeling Competition (Tianjin Competition Area), the Tianjin College Mathematics Competition, and the Tianjin College Students Computer Application Competition. They have won the first prize in the CCTV Cup National English Speech Contest. The school women's basketball team has won eight consecutive championships of the National College Basketball League (CUBA) and ten championships. In 2016, two players were selected into the Chinese Olympic women's basketball team and participated in the Rio Olympic Games, which opened a new history for college students to be selected into the national team. In 2017, one player was re-selected into the national team. The school Orienteering team has won many championships in important domestic competitions, and has made outstanding achievements in international competitions on behalf of the national team, making positive contributions to the development of national orienteering. Students actively participated in voluntary and public welfare undertakings and excelled in large-scale activities such as Davos Forum, Harmony Fair and Universiade. More than 3000 students have volunteered to join the Chinese Bone Marrow Bank. The first and second female college students who donated hematopoietic stem cells in our country have come out of our school. Up to now, 11 students have successfully donated hematopoietic stem cells.

Schools focus on the implementation of the internationalization strategy. It is one of the earliest institutions in China to cooperate with foreign countries in holding academic degree education and awarding MBA degree qualification to the United States; it has the qualification of Chinese government scholarship program for overseas students. The school actively explores the international education market and initiates the four-year undergraduate course of "China's Economy and Commerce" in domestic universities. It also recruits foreign students from the United States, Japan, Canada, Malaysia and other countries. Its teaching covers all levels of personnel training and education, including bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor's degree. China-US Humanities Exchange Scholarship Program and China-EU Humanities Exchange Scholarship Program, which undertakes MIT winter Chinese intensive training program. It has maintained cooperative relations with more than 60 universities and research institutes in more than 20 countries and regions, such as the United States, Britain, Russia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It is one of the first two "Certificate of Certified Public Accountants Examination Centers" set up by the British Accredited Certified Public Accountants Association (ACCA) in China, and has been awarded platinum-level educational institutions. In addition, it also has professional orientations such as chartered financial analysts, Actuaries of international cooperation projects, Royal Chartered Management Accountants and so on. The international professional education system is constantly enriched. Confucius Institutes have been set up in Britain and the United States to deepen the construction of Sino-foreign cooperative educational projects, and undergraduate financial (energy and finance) education projects have been held in cooperation with the University of West Virginia in the United States. The level of internationalization of running schools has been constantly improving.

The school has formed distinct characteristics, fine cultural traditions and rigorous style of study in many years of school-running practice. Since its establishment, more than 100,000 qualified graduates have been trained for the country.
