Liaoning University of Science and Technology, founded in 1948, is one of the earliest metallurgical universities in China. Now it has developed into a university with engineering as its main subject and coordinated development of science, economics, management, literature, law, art and other disciplines.

Over the past 70 years since its establishment, the school has gradually formed its school-running characteristics of "based on metallurgy, school-enterprise cooperation, focusing on practice, cultivating practical and competent applied senior specialized personnel to adapt to development", and has trained a large number of talents for the country, many of whom have become top-notch technical personnel, academic leaders and management backbone of enterprises and institutions. At present, large iron and steel enterprises such as Angang, Hegang, Bogang, Baotou, Benxi, Linggang, Baosteel and Tonggang are all graduates of our school holding important positions such as chairman and general manager.

The school is located in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, the capital of the motherland steel, covering an area of more than 183,000 square meters. The school has 20 colleges, 1 teaching department and 1 Engineering Training center, with a total of 59 undergraduate majors. The school has the right to confer bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor's degree. There are 3 doctoral points in first-level disciplines, 13 doctoral points in second-level disciplines, 12 master's points in first-level disciplines, 43 master's points in second-level disciplines and 14 master's points in professional disciplines. The school has the right to grant MBA degree, the right to apply for master's degree for on-the-job personnel with the same academic level, the right to grant engineering master's degree and the right to dismiss postgraduates. The school has a rigorous teaching staff. At present, there are 1216 full-time teachers, including 187 senior titles and 430 deputy senior titles. The school has 20748 full-time students.

The school always regards teaching as its central task and regards teaching quality as its lifeline. The school has been approved by the national "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" pilot schools and Liaoning Province transformation and development pilot schools. Since the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, it has won the second prize of national teaching achievement, 16 provincial undergraduate teaching achievement awards, 1 national undergraduate comprehensive reform pilot specialty, 3 pilot specialties of Excellent Engineer Education Training Program of Ministry of Education, 1 national planning textbook, 1 key supporting specialty, 3 pilot specialties of provincial comprehensive reform, and 3 pilot specialties of undergraduate engineering talents training mode reform. Six industries, two provincial engineering practice education centers, eight provincial teaching teams, 11 provincial famous teachers, one national excellent video open course, four provincial excellent video open courses, five provincial excellent resource sharing courses, one provincial school-enterprise cooperative training system reform project, seven provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and 11 provincial planning textbooks.

The school has strong scientific research strength. The school has the most complete discipline system of iron and steel metallurgy in China. Refractories and coking specialties are first established in China and enjoy a good reputation at home and abroad. There are five key disciplines at the provincial and ministerial levels, and chemical engineering and technology disciplines are rated as "the first-class disciplines in Liaoning Province". Since the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken 1816 scientific research projects at all levels, including more than 150 national projects such as the National Science and Technology Support Plan, the National 863 Plan and the National Natural Science Foundation. It has won more than 100 awards for science and technology at all levels, 422 patents and nearly 800 million yuan in Science and technology funds. One National Engineering Technology Research center, one provincial major science and technology platform, two provincial collaborative innovation centers, 20 provincial key laboratories and engineering (technology) research centers were approved.

Schools continue to expand the field of social services and development space. The School Science Park was established in 1996 and was recognized as the National University Science Park in 2010. In 2015, the Technology Transfer Center of the Science and Technology Park was designated as the national technology transfer demonstration institution by the Ministry of Science and Technology. At present, there are 61 enterprises in the park, 52 incubators, 5 listed companies and 14 independent entrepreneurs for college students. In the fields of steel processing, advanced equipment manufacturing, new chemical materials, magnesite deep processing and photoelectric industry, more than 80 scientific and technological achievements have been transformed. The school adheres to the concept of "school-enterprise integration, co-prosperity and co-prosperity". It has formed a school-enterprise alliance with more than 100 enterprises such as Anshan Iron and Steel Company, Hegang Group and Julong Group. It has built more than 50 R&D centers and jointly undertakes and develops more than 100 national and provincial-ministerial scientific research projects, including the National 863 project. The school jointly established the National Research Center for Financial Safety and Systems Equipment Engineering Technology with JULONG Group of Science and Technology University. The research and development achievements have reached the first level in China and the leading level in the world, and become the pioneer of technological innovation in the industry.

The school is open to the world. At present, we have established partnerships with more than 30 foreign universities and signed friendly cooperation agreements with 23 universities. Since the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the scale of overseas students has been further expanded, the types of specialties and academic levels have been further improved. Thirteen undergraduate and 18 postgraduate disciplines have been offered international courses. They have been approved to undertake the training task of Chinese government scholarships for overseas students in China and have been qualified to enroll Chinese government scholarships for overseas students.

The basic task of the school is to train the builders and successors of the socialist modernization cause. It pays attention to the cultivation and improvement of students'comprehensive quality and the steady improvement of the quality of personnel training. Since the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, students have participated in the "Challenge Cup" National University Students'Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, Internet Entrepreneurship Competition, ACM International University Students Programming Competition, National University Students' Machinery Innovative Design Competition, National University Students'Mathematical Modeling Competition, National University Students' Electronic Design Competition and other competitions, and won 17 international-level awards and 140 national-level awards. In addition, 754 provincial and ministerial awards are in the forefront of similar institutions in the province. The school bridge team has won the championship of the National University Bridge Championship for many years, and has represented China in the World University Bridge Championship many times, and has achieved excellent results.
