Xinjiang Normal University was founded in December 1978. Its predecessors are Urumqi No. 1 Normal School and Xinjiang Teacher Training Department. It is one of the important achievements of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee in the field of higher education. Along with the growth of reform and opening up, after 40 years of storms and hardships, Xinjiang Normal University has always adhered to the education run by politicians and educators, striving to become a strong force to support Xinjiang's educational cause and economic and social development; has always taken strengthening the leadership of the Party as a fundamental guarantee, adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, implemented the fundamental task of Building Morality and cultivating people, and integrated socialist core values into education. The whole process of education and teaching; the unswerving pursuit of science, civilization, progress and truth, adhering to the school motto of "learning, practicing and being a teacher", has formed a fine school style of "unity, dedication, seeking truth and innovation"; and always taking "educating people for the Party and the country" as its responsibility, has made an important contribution to the economic and social development of Xinjiang, especially to the development of teacher education. The school has successively won the honorary titles of the National Advanced Grass-roots Party Branch, National Unity and Progress Advanced Collective, Autonomous Region Advanced Grass-roots Party Organization, Development and Construction of Xinjiang Advanced Collective, Autonomous Region Civilization Unit and so on.

The school covers an area of 2864 Mu and is divided into three campuses: Hot Spring, Kunlun and Wenguang. They are located at No. 100 Scenic Road in Shuimogou District, No. 102 Xinyi Road in Shaibak District and No. 16 East Kashgar Road in New Urban District. Hot Spring Campus is the main campus and administrative center of the school, which undertakes the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students of liberal arts; Kunlun Campus now mainly undertakes the tasks of undergraduate and postgraduate students of science and art, continuing education, distance education, teacher cadre training and foreign student education; Wenguang Campus mainly undertakes the task of specialized training.

The school has 20 colleges, of which the Marxist College is the national key Marxist College. The school was authorized by master's units in 1993 and doctor's units in 2013. There are five First-Level Discipline doctoral degree authorization points and one education doctoral professional degree point, 18 First-Level Discipline master's degree authorization points, 9 master's professional degree authorization points, 96 second-level discipline master's points, 61 undergraduate specialties, and the discipline specialty covers 10 disciplines, and has formed a postgraduate teaching category. The complete education system includes education, general undergraduate education, preparatory education, primary and secondary education, preschool education, adult continuing education and overseas students'education. The school has one national-level international joint research center, four key disciplines in the autonomous region, two key laboratories in the autonomous region, and nine key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences in autonomous region universities, such as Xinjiang Teacher Education Research Center. It has research institutions and platforms at all levels, such as the National Key Marxist College, the National College Students'Cultural Quality Education Base, the National University Counselor Development Research Center, the Huang Wenbi Center, the Xinjiang Research Institute of Social Management, the Central Asian Research Institute, the Desert Algae Research Institute, and the Energy and Environment Research Center.

The school has 2254 staff (including 392 kindergartens attached to secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens). There are 1862 faculty members in the University department, including 1193 full-time teachers, 10 teachers in Xinjiang, 148 teachers of the same grade treatment; 142 full-time teachers, 142 senior, 345 vice-senior, 40.8% senior titles; 324 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees, 553 full-time teachers with master's degrees, and 74% full-time teachers with doctoral degrees (27%). The school currently enjoys three special allowances from the State Council, one national cultural expert and "four groups of" talents (theorists), 33 "Tianshan scholars" of the autonomous region, 13 "Tianshan elites" of the autonomous region, three high-level talents of the autonomous region, and 15 "Dr. Tianchi" of the autonomous region.

There are 29 214 students at all levels, including 16 333 ordinary undergraduates (14618 undergraduates, 1715 specialists), 2 600 master students (including part-time master graduates), 461 in-service master's degree students and 94 doctoral students; 5 936 adult education students (all correspondence and amateur); 2 868 preparatory students (excluding the preparatory students of our school); 4. There are 922 people.

The school pays attention to connotation construction and quality improvement, and has achieved outstanding results in teaching management and reform. In recent years, a total of 1 National Teaching Achievement Award and 21 autonomous region teaching achievement award have been won; 4 specialties have been awarded national characteristic specialties, 11 specialties have been awarded autonomous region-level talents and key construction undergraduate specialties; 1 teaching team has been awarded national teaching team, 4 teaching teams have been awarded autonomous region-level teaching team; 1 project has been awarded autonomous region education comprehensive reform. Reform pilot projects; 5 experimental teaching demonstration centers were awarded as experimental teaching demonstration centers at the autonomous region level; 1 course was awarded as national-level excellent courses, 12 courses were awarded as autonomous region-level excellent courses; 1 course was awarded as national-level excellent video open courses, 1 course was awarded as autonomous region-level excellent video open courses; 11 teaching research projects were awarded as autonomous region-level excellent video open courses; 11 teaching reform projects were awarded as autonomous region-level excellent video open courses. Focusing on the national strategic needs and the development needs of the autonomous region, the school promotes innovative development of basic research and applied research, constantly upgrades the level of scientific research, and provides strong support for the security, stability and economic and social development of the autonomous region. The National Social Science Foundation Project of our university, the Humanities and Social Science Project of the Ministry of Education, the number of projects set up by the Xinjiang Social Science Foundation Project and the Xinjiang Philosophy and Social Science Award ranked first in Xinjiang universities for many consecutive years.

The school has 37 teaching, professional and research laboratories, and 360 multimedia classrooms (including recording and broadcasting rooms), language laboratories and electronic reading rooms. The School Library covers an area of 58,000 square meters, with a total collection of 1.61 million books, 1150 professional journals, more than 20,000 selected electronic journals, 388,780 electronic books, 31 databases and more than 53.55 TB of digital resources.

The school publishes the Journal of Xinjiang Normal University, the Philosophical and Social Sciences Edition and the Natural Sciences Edition. The Journal of Xinjiang Normal University (Chinese Literature and Philosophy Edition) is the only comprehensive journal of Social Sciences in Xinjiang that has been selected as the core of the "Three Full". It is also the only comprehensive academic journal of Social Sciences in Xinjiang that has been selected as the key support of the National Social Science Foundation. The composite impact factor is 3.312 and the comprehensive impact factor is 937, ranked first in influencing factors of comprehensive journals of colleges and universities in China for three consecutive years.

The school attaches great importance to foreign exchanges and cooperation, actively carries out educational, scientific and cultural exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, realizes joint training of undergraduates and postgraduates with China University of Science and Technology, East China Normal University and Central China Normal University, and establishes long-term cooperative relations with more than 40 foreign universities in the United States, Britain, Russia, Japan, etc. Visits to schools and academic exchanges have normalized. The school employs foreign experts to teach and invites well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad to give lectures and exchanges. The school has three Confucius Institutes in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and the Confucius Institutes in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have been awarded the title of "Advanced Confucius Institutes" by the National Han Office. The school has been awarded by the National Han Office as "Excellent Chinese Contracting College of Confucius Institute", and has become a Chinese College of Shanghai Cooperation Organization University. At the same time, the school is the "Demonstration Base for Overseas Students'Education" of the Ministry of Education, the "Chinese Promotion Base in Central Asia" of the National Office of Han Dynasty, the "International Training Center for Chinese Teachers", and the "Chinese Education Base" of the Overseas Chinese Office of the State Council.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the school will resolutely implement Xi Jinping's socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era and the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Party, adhere to and strengthen the Party's overall leadership in education, serve the people, the CPC's governance, consolidate and develop the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, and serve the reform, opening-up and socialist modernization drive. The goal orientation of "comprehensive, applied and high-level normal universities" is to focus on talent cultivation, take connotation construction and quality improvement as the basic working ideas and development paths, strengthen the ability of Xinjiang teachers'education reform and development to lead service, enhance the ability of serving regional economic and social development, strengthen the construction of influence, highlight practical contributions, and turn Xinjiang Normal University into a university. To cultivate excellent teachers'gardens, to cultivate cradles for serving basic education teachers in frontier areas, to nurture bases of first-class disciplines, to connect think tanks of major strategic needs of the state and the autonomous region, to provide talents for the security, stability and economic and social development of the autonomous region, and to contribute to the overall goal of social stability and long-term stability.
