Yantai University is located in "the best charming city in China" - Yantai. It is the nearest coastal University in China and has the longest coastline. It is a key comprehensive university in Shandong Province.

The school was founded in July 1984. With the special approval of the Ministry of Education, Peking University and Tsinghua University jointly selected teaching, scientific research and management backbone to assist the school. In 1990, the "Construction Committee of Peking University and Tsinghua Supporting Yantai University" was established to regularly study and guide the teaching, scientific research, discipline construction and reform and development of Yantai University, so that Yantai University has a high starting point and a high level of development. In 1995, the school successfully passed the qualified evaluation of undergraduate teaching level of the former State Education Commission. In 1998, he was awarded the right to master's degree. In 2004, we got "excellent" grade in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, it was approved as the first batch of doctoral talents training projects of famous universities in Shandong Province, which were set up by construction units and served the special needs of the state. In 2016, we received the undergraduate teaching audit and evaluation led by the Ministry of Education and organized by Shandong Education Department, which fully affirmed the teaching quality of our university. Now it has the qualification of doctoral, master and undergraduate enrollment and the right of conferring corresponding degrees.

The school covers an area of 1.4 million square meters, with a building area of 10.198 million square meters and a total value of 418 million yuan in teaching instruments and equipment. The total area of the library is 438,000 square meters. By the end of 2017, the library has more than 2.01 million printed books and 264,000 newspapers and periodicals, and more than 2,100 printed Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals are subscribed to each year. More than 188,000 electronic books, 19,000 electronic journals and nearly 100 foreign language databases have been introduced.

The school now has 22 colleges (departments), 65 research institutes and 64 undergraduate majors, covering 10 disciplines such as arts, science, engineering, law, agriculture, medicine, economy, management, education and art. The school has formed a multi-type and multi-level school-running pattern of undergraduate education, postgraduate education, overseas students education and continuing education. At present, there are more than 29,000 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates and international students, and undergraduates come from 31 provinces (cities and districts) across the country. There are also nearly 6,000 adult higher education students and full-time self-taught students.

The school has a team of teachers with reasonable structure and excellent quality. At present, there are 1279 full-time teachers, of which 607 are professional and technical personnel with Vice-Senior or above; 620 have doctoral degrees, accounting for 48.48% of full-time teachers. At present, there are 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 famous teaching teacher of the first 100 nationwide, 1 National candidate of "Millions of Talents Project in the New Century", 1 national leader of philosophy and social sciences of "Millions Plan", 1 winner of National Outstanding Youth Fund, 1 young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions from the state, 2 excellent teachers and 2 appraisal experts of National Social Science Fund. One famous national cultural expert and "four batches" talent project, 12 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council Government, 4 candidates for the "Excellent Talents in the New Century" support plan of the Ministry of Education, 1 top talent in the first batch of provincial "one thing, one top talent in the first batch of provincial"one discussion", 15 talents in the Taishan Scholar Project, 2 talents in the Taishan Industry Leadership, 12 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions from Shandong Province, and 10 teachers in Shandong Province. There are 3 winners of the Joint Fund for Excellent Young Talents in Provincial Universities, 1 chief expert of high-end talents in Shandong think tank, 5 chief experts in Shandong Universities and 9 experts in Yantai Shuangbai Plan. Nearly 300 well-known scholars at home and abroad serve as visiting professors and part-time professors, employing 13 part-time academicians.

In recent years, the school has been approved four national characteristic majors, 14 provincial brand characteristic majors and eight provincial high-level applied majors covering 29 majors. Six majors have successfully entered the Ministry of Education's "Education and Training Plan for Excellent Engineers" and "Education and Training Plan for Excellent Legal Talents". Three national quality courses and bilingual teaching demonstration course construction projects, one national quality resource sharing course, 35 provincial quality courses, and three national course sharing courses of East-West University curriculum alliance were approved. It has one national teaching team, five provincial teaching teams and one year-style teaching team of Huangda University in Shandong Province. The school was the first to receive the Shandong University's superior disciplines talent team training project, and two "Shandong University's talent training model innovation experimental areas". Pharmaceutical Experimental Center is the national experimental teaching demonstration center, Engineering Mechanics Experimental Center is the first national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and there are four provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.

In recent years, the school has won one second prize for national scientific and technological progress, more than 210 prizes at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, including one first prize for scientific and technological progress in Shandong Province, one first prize for outstanding achievements in scientific research in Universities (humanities and social sciences), and four second prizes. He presided over 310 national projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Foundation, 973 projects and 863 projects. He presided over 674 provincial and ministerial projects, including 2 outstanding youth funds in Shandong Province. He presided over more than 1600 horizontal projects. The school pays attention to the development of international and regional academic exchanges and friendly exchanges, and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 100 universities and academic institutions in 26 countries and regions. There are two Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate programs with Korean and American universities, and 34 friendly universities in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, South Korea and Taiwan, China, to carry out inter-school student exchange programs. The school is one of the first institutions allowed to accept foreign students and invite foreign experts in culture and education. The Chinese Education Base in Shandong Province has the National Government Scholarship for foreign students, the Shandong government scholarship for foreign students and the Yantai University scholarship for foreign students.
