Anhui Normal University is the earliest university in Anhui. The school is located in Wuhu, a state-level open city with the reputation of "Huifeng, Wanyun and Qianhu City". It is near the vast Yangtze River and Lingxiu Mountains. It gathers the natural beauty of the south of the Yangtze River and brings together the outstanding talents of Anhui humanities. It is a university constructed jointly by the People's Government of Anhui Province and the Ministry of Education, and a national "basic capacity-building project for colleges and universities in the central and Western regions". It is the priority of the Anhui Provincial Government. The key provincial comprehensive universities and the local high-level universities in Anhui Province are under construction.

Its predecessor was Anhui Provincial University founded in 1928, renamed National Anhui University in 1946, and moved to Wuhu in December 1949. Afterwards, he went through several stages of running schools, such as Anhui Normal University, Hefei Normal University, Southern Anhui University (whose name was inscribed by Comrade Liu Shaoqi), and Anhui University of Industry and Agriculture. In 1972, with the approval of the State Council, it was officially named Anhui Normal University (whose name was inscribed by Comrade Guo Moruo). In 2005, Wuhu Normal College was integrated into Anhui Normal University as a whole.

In the course of 90 years'schooling, Liu Wendian, Zhou Jianren, Yu Dafu, Su Xuelin, Chen Wangdao, Zhuxiang, Zhu Guangqian, Wang Xinggong, Yang Lianggong, Cheng Yansheng, Tao Yin, Zhang Xinci, Ding Xuxian, Xiangnan, Xujie and a large number of well-known experts and scholars, social sages, gathered at the Bank of Linghu Lake and the shore of Jinghu Lake successively, wrote books and wrote theories, and promoted education. Through generations of teachers'devotion to hard work, inspiration and practice, cultivation of post-learning, successive pay-for-fire and teaching by words and deeds, the spirit of "honesty, simplicity, kindness, farsightedness, pursuit of excellence and self-improvement" has been cultivated, and the teaching style of "rigorous learning, dedication, teaching and educating people, being a teacher's model" has been accumulated, which cultivates the style of "diligent thinking, modest, unity of knowledge and practice, and seeking for novelty". The school motto of "Honesty, Respect for Education, Wisdom and Devotion" has been condensed. Since its establishment, nearly 300,000 full-time professional talents have been trained for the country.

The school currently has the Colleges of Literature, Marxism, Law, Economics and Management, Music, Fine Arts, History and Society, Education Science, Foreign Languages, Sports, Journalism and Communication, Mathematics and Statistics, Computer and Information, Physics and Electronic Information, Chemistry and Materials Science, Geography and Tourism. There are 18 institutes such as College of Life Sciences, College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, College of Continuing Education and College of International Education.

The school disciplines cover literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, pedagogy, science, engineering, agronomy, art and other disciplines, forming a doctoral-master-bachelor education at different levels, full-time higher education, adult higher education, foreign student education and other different types of complete personnel training system. There are 8 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 29 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree, 14 professional degree authorization points, 5 post-doctoral mobile stations, 18 provincial key disciplines, 3 provincial major disciplines construction projects and 88 undergraduate disciplines. There are one key research base of Humanities and social sciences, one key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, one national and regional research center of the Ministry of Education, one provincial key laboratory (cultivation), two "2011 collaborative innovation centers" of Anhui Province, five key research bases of Humanities and social sciences of universities in Anhui Province, five key laboratories of Anhui Province and three universities in Anhui Province. Key Laboratory, 1 Anhui Engineering Laboratory, 1 Provincial Key Think Tank, 1 Anhui Engineering Research Center, 1 Anhui University Engineering Research Center, and 1 Anhui Science and Technology Innovation Public Service Platform.

There are more than 2300 teachers and staff in the school, including more than 1500 full-time teachers. There are more than 940 professors, associate professors and other senior titles. There are three national teaching teams, one cultural renowned scholar and one "four groups" of talents, one "ten thousand plan" philosophical and Social Sciences leader, three "one million talents project" national candidates, seven "outstanding talents in the new century" support plans of the Ministry of Education, six specially appointed professors, four lecture professors, three young scholars of Wanjiang, and two "hundred people plan" of the province. The campus covers a total area of 195.25 million square meters, with a construction area of 984.7 million square meters and a total value of 545 million yuan in equipment. The school library is the key protection unit of ancient books in China. It has abundant collections and complete types. There are more than 2.94 million books and 700 good books. Among them, Hongwu Zhengyun is the only one in China that does not deserve to be supplemented. The Yuan Ming Ming Dynasty, Jiajing, Li Taibai Complete Works and Dugong Collection are all rare books in the sea, with 90 kinds of digital resources. The bibliographic digitization has been realized. The school is run by Anhui Normal University Press, which edits and publishes journals and newspapers such as Journal of Anhui Normal University, Journal of College Counselors, Learning Chinese and Anhui Normal University Newspaper.

The school is one of the first universities allowed to recruit public-funded foreign students in China. It is also the national Chinese education base and the Anhui Chinese International Promotion Center. The school has received more than 3,000 students from more than 30 countries and regions for long-term and short-term further education and academic education. It has established long-term friendly cooperation and academic exchanges with dozens of institutions of higher learning, scientific research institutions and educational institutions of academic organizations in the United States, Britain, Germany, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan and Vietnam, and has also made investigations with Australia. The Confucius Institute was established at the University of Darwin and the Confucius Classroom was set up at Zabologe National University in Ukraine.
