Jiangsu Vocational College of Medicine (JSMC), a full-time public vocational 

college directly subordinate to the Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health 

and Family Planning, is a provincial demonstrative vocational college. Where 

the college locates in is Yancheng city, the homeland of the red-crowned 

crane and the Milu deer, a city with reputation for the beautiful scenery, 

pleasant climate and pristine wetlands. It is co-constructed by the 

tripartite parties of Jiangsu province, Yancheng city and the college itself. 

JSMC’s school-running history begins from July 1941, when the Sanitation 

School of Central China was established by the New Fourth Army.

Consisted of two campuses--Jiefang Campus and Jianjun Campus, JSMC covers a 

total area of 46 hectares and the construction area is about 254 thousand 

square meters. The gross value of fixed assets of the college is more than 

600 million RMB, including near 100 million RMB teaching devices. The library 

has a collection of 535.1 thousand books. The number of students, including 

full-time studying students and those learn through continuing education, is 

about 10 thousand. JSMC has a teaching group of 655 staffs (318 teachers) 

with an excellent teacher-student ratio of 1:12.98 in 2017.There are total 32 

professors in JSMC, 216 teachers with a master or doctoral degree, one 

provincial teaching group, one provincial prominent teacher, 5 teachers 

trained by the “333 Project” (third level) training program, 4 teachers 

selected in the “Six-Talent Peaks” program, 22 young and middle-aged 

teachers were chosen by the Blue Project as academic leaders and talents 

under cultivation. Two teachers have served as members of the Steering 

Committee of the Ministry of Education, and by now, nearly 50 teaching staff 

have held a position in various associations and committees at the provincial 

level and above.

At present, the college has 9 teaching units, namely, School of Nursing, 

School of Pharmacy School, School of Medical Imaging, School of Clinical 

Medicine, School of Rehabilitation, School of Publics, School of 

International Education, and the Department of Fundamental Medicine, which 

comprise 19 majors: clinical medicine, nursing, pharmacy, etc. Among these, 

JSMC has one provincial A-class brand major, one national demonstration major 

of health service in vocational schools and colleges, five provincial high-

level key majors, two teaching resources databases at the Ministry of 

Education of vocational education, three sets of provincial excellent 

textbooks and seven sets of key textbooks, 13 textbooks were included in the 

textbook list during the 12th Five-year Plan period, two excellent online 

courses in Chinese MOOC alliance of Chinese medical education, one excellence 

project of online and offline teaching, two typical case of higher occupation 

education in depth of integration of production and education training 

platform construction. Four national and provincial training bases nurtured 

447 scientific research projects at national, provincial or municipal level, 

including three National Natural Science Foundation projects and eight key 

projects of provincial natural and social science foundations. JSMC has won 

12 thrid prizes of provincial level and 39 first prizes at city level, and 

eight awards for outstanding scientific researching results at the provincial 

level or above. More than 100 SCI papers and 100 textbooks have been 

published by JSMC teaching staff.

As the chairman of Health Commission of the Chinese Society of Vocational and 

Technical Education and National Steering Committee of Rehabilitation 

Specialties, JSMC organizes annually high-level seminars and the national 

vocational students’ skills competitions among vocational colleges of health 

nationwide. It also leads the trend of education reform and practice of 

vocational schools and colleges, which highlights the college’s impact and 

demonstration effect in the medicine and health fields.

JSMC is one of the bases of post-doctoral innovation and practice of Jiangsu 

Province, which effectively promotes the level of innovation and the 

transformation of research achievements of Yancheng and Northern Jiangsu. 

Through units of the provincial science education base, Jinyu Medical 

Laboratory, Weirui Institute of Medical Imaging, JSMC’s Institute of 

Judicial Authentication and the School of Community Health institute, the 

college has carried out a number of special researches on the grass-roots 

healthcare of Northern Jiangsu, thus has improved the ability of serving the 

area’s development of healthcare industries through linkage of research and 

education.

Based on the healthcare industry, JSMC takes the job-oriented concept as the 

fundamental of talents cultivation, thus forms a new cultivating form of 

Education-Practice-Service. The excellent enrollment and employment rate of 

JSMC have made a benign circulation with 100% enrollment rate and over 95% 

registration rate. The number of offers received is among the best in 

Northern Jiangsu, and graduates’ employment rate is over 99%.

JSMC attaches great importance to the training of students' practical 

abilities and promotes the quality of personnel through competitions. Up to 

now, students from JSMC have won 112 individual and group awards in the 

national vocational students’ skills competitions, including 36 first prize; 

and the college itself has enjoyed a high reputation among the vocational 

schools and colleges. In the fifteenth Challenge Cup of College and 

University students held in 2017, JSMC became the only vocational college in 

Jiangsu province to win a prize.

JSMC has always been actively carrying out foreign cooperation and exchanges. 

It has established cooperation with universities and institutions from the 

United States, Canada, Germany, Japan and other countries, sent more than 60 

students to universities and medical institutions in Australia and Japan. 

JSMC has also set up a joint program with the St. Lawrence College of Canada, 

and built the Yancheng Chang Gung Healthcare School with Chang Gung 

University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. Besides, JSMC also 

collaborates with Randolph-Macon College in the US and Soonchunhyang 

University in South Korea on the overseas undergraduates’ program of nursing 

and pharmacy.
