Beijing Transportation Vocational and Technical College is set up by the Changping District People's Government. It is a full-time higher vocational school which is under the supervision of the Municipal Education Commission and on the record of the Ministry of Education. The College was founded in 1984, formerly Changping Branch of Northern Jiaotong University, and renamed as Higher Vocational and Technical College of Northern Jiaotong University in 1999. In January 2005, with the approval of the Beijing Municipal People's Government, it was independently established as Beijing Communications Vocational and Technical College. The College mainly focuses on Higher Vocational education, and carries out continuing education, skill training and appraisal services.

The college covers an area of 305 mu. It has five teaching departments (departments) including Road and Bridge Department, Automobile Department, Management Department, Rail Transit Department and Basic Department. It has 18 specialties in general higher vocational education. It has formed four special specialty groups, namely, Transportation and Civil Engineering, Automobile and Electrical Engineering, Urban Service and Rail Transit. The College has vigorously supported the modernization of practical teaching equipment. There are now eight practice training centers for professional groups and 31 practice rooms for various professional disciplines. It pays attention to students'vocational skills training, expands their employment competitiveness, strengthens professional practice and social practice activities, adheres to the "double certificate" training mode of organic combination of education and professional certificate training, and improves the training quality of practical talents. At present, 22% of the full-time teachers in the College have senior professional titles. There are 3 excellent teachers at the municipal level, 2 famous teachers in Beijing, 14 outstanding young backbone teachers in Beijing, 3 in the Beijing Youth Talent Training Program and 1 excellent teaching team at the municipal level. Among the full-time teachers in our college, 59% are double-qualified teachers with first-line production experience.
