Changchun Polytechnic University is a key provincial university, which is supported and coordinated by industry, management, arts, economics, law, education, art and other disciplines. It is also an important base for high-level personnel training, applied technology research and development, high-tech product development and high-level social services in Jilin Province.

The school was founded in 1952. In the early stage, it was the Changchun Automobile Industry School founded by the state in preparation for the construction of China's first automobile manufacturer. Jilin Institute of Technology was named in 1962. In 1992, it was identified as one of the first three provincial key universities by the Jilin Provincial Government. In 2004, it obtained excellent grades in the national undergraduate teaching level evaluation. In 2014, as the first batch of universities in China and the first university in Jilin Province, the school successfully passed the undergraduate teaching auditing and evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and won high praise from the expert group.

The school currently has three campuses, South Lake, Forest Garden and North Lake, covering an area of 138,000 square meters. There are 21,806 full-time students and 1754 faculty members. The school has 17 colleges, 5 doctoral programs in first-level disciplines, 20 master's programs in first-level disciplines and 53 undergraduate majors. Among them, there are 26 engineering majors, 4 science majors, 2 economics majors, 9 management majors, 4 literature majors, 2 law majors, 1 Pedagogy Major and 5 art majors. At the same time, there are 7 second bachelor's degree majors, 3 double degree majors, 6 national characteristic majors, 1 pilot major of comprehensive reform of national majors, 2 National top-quality courses and 1 national-level course. There are 206 professors, 92 doctoral supervisors and 630 master supervisors. Over the past 66 years since its establishment, more than 170,000 graduates have been trained for the country, which has been widely praised by employers. The employment rate of graduates has always been in the forefront of universities in the province. He has won the title of "National Advanced Collective of Graduates'Employment Work in Colleges and Universities", and has become one of the first batch of 50 typical experiential colleges and universities in China. He is also the construction unit of "Basic Ability Construction Project (Phase II) of Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China" and the national cultural quality education base for College students.

The school has always adhered to the purpose of serving local economic construction and social development, relying on FAW, Changke, Jihua and other large key enterprises and emerging high-tech enterprises, to carry out personnel training, scientific and technological research and development and social services. In recent years, the school has seized the opportunity of revitalizing the old industrial base, actively brought into play the discipline and talent advantages of Engineering Colleges and universities, comprehensively integrated and improved the ability of scientific and technological innovation and service level, and actively assumed the important task of scientific and technological support. The school's scientific research and industry are closely integrated, and the conversion rate of achievements is high. A number of important achievements, such as carbon fiber, ABS resin, aluminum alloy friction stir welding, automobile airbag automatic production line, advanced manufacturing, metallurgical energy saving, have been industrialized in Jilin Province. Over the past six years, we have undertaken more than 1,900 scientific research projects, including 83 from the National Natural Science Foundation, 6 from the National Social Science Foundation, 1 from the National Major Science and Technology Foundation, 2 from the National Art Foundation, 7 from the "Double Ten Projects" in Jilin Province and Changchun City, and more than 300 million yuan from the full-scale scientific research funds. He has won 142 awards for various kinds of science and technology, including 9 first-class awards and 31 second-class awards for provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress, 161 patents for invention authorized by the state, and more than 840 retrieval papers for SCI, EI and CSSCI. Thirty national and provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions have been established. The University Science Park has been incorporated into the North Lake Science and Technology Innovation Complex in Changchun, and the University has been designated as a national technology transfer demonstration institution. As a pilot unit of Jilin Province's "two schools and five schools" achievement transformation fund, five scientific and technological achievements have received an investment fund of 30 million yuan.

The school is one of the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to accept foreign students. It has established friendly cooperative relations with universities and scientific research institutions in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Russia and other countries. It has sent foreign students, experts and scholars to conduct international academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation. It has also organized undergraduate education projects in cooperation with the University of Auckland and the University of Portland in the United States.

Various student associations carry out rich and colorful activities of science, technology, literature and sports all the year round. The school pays attention to the cultivation of students'ideological and political quality and moral sentiment. The Party building and ideological and political work have been appraised as "National Advanced Colleges of Party Building and Ideological and Political Work" by the Central Organization Department, the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Education for two consecutive times. For many years, it has been named "the pacesetter of grass-roots Party organizations", "the pacesetter unit of spiritual civilization construction" and "the advanced school of general higher education" by provincial Party committees and provincial governments. The school won the title of "National Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization Construction" in 2009 and "National Civilization Unit" in 2011. In 2012, the Party Committee of the school was awarded the title of "national pioneering priority for grass-roots Party organizations". In 2016, the Party Committee of the school was awarded the title of "Advanced Grass-roots Party Organization of the whole province" and "Pioneer of Advanced Grass-roots Party Organization of the whole province's colleges and universities".
